As a requirement for my courses, students are given the opportunity to create a research project of their choice. This requires them to read scientific journal articles,  design methodology, contact stakeholders, create and manage a field sampling schedule, and run analyses at local universities, colleges, or professional labs/organizations. Once data is collected a compare and contrast of results with existing information in literature review is performed. They are treated as if they were graduate students and are therefore expected to present at a professional conference that relates to their research
